Paul Fenton’s apprentice at Eastern Electricity.

Created by Paul 2 years ago

Tim spent two weeks with me before he started his apprenticeship in Nottingham and when he was straight out of school. He had a great work ethic then and retained that throughout his life. When he returned to the Ipswich Depot he worked with me as an apprentice more than any other electrician at Eastern Electricity over the next few years. We worked on many jobs together such at Wherstead Park,CAO and Borehamwood Offices installing air conditioning units to name just a few. I  would pick up Timmy in the mornings and if we worked  overtime over weekends he would have often been out ‘enjoying the odd brandy and coke’ and was, well, a little fragile in the mornings. I remember one saturday morning at EEB HQ at Wherstead Park when i couldn’t find Tim for a couple of hours and eventually found him asleep on a big leather sofa in the Engineering Directors office! And lets say that he had also ‘put the bin’ to use in the office (he said it must have been the kebab!). I’d like to think he learnt an awful lot about air conditioning which served him well when he joined York Building Services.

There are far too many stories to tell about the laughs that Timmy and I enjoyed over the years, and probably very few that i could tell here. Hiding from Ron at Wherstead, Cumberland Towers, the ‘Mitre Pub’ and MacDonalds at Barnet….so many stories!!

He was just a top bloke, a good mate, and the best bloody apprentice i had the pleasure to work with and that later became the electrician, the engineer and the managing director of a very successful company. My heart goes out to Tim’s family, he will be so sadly missed by everyone. Rest in Peace my friend.
